Office of Financial Aid
Overseas Study Fact Sheet
The Office of Financial Aid will assist qualified University of South
Florida degree-seeking students in receiving financial aid funds while
participating in International study. The following are some important
facts that you should know before committing to an overseas program:
- No funds are specifically designated by the Office of Financial Aid
for foreign study programs.
- Financial Aid eligibility criteria for international study students
is the same as for those students who remain on campus (Refer to the Financial
Aid Guide for details). However, your educational budget will be based
on the total costs of the program, including airfare. Provide the Office
of Financial Aid with a copy of your overseas study certification form
and cost sheet.
- You must be enrolled at least half time (6 hours undergraduate, 5 hours
graduate).
- All programs of study must be approved by your academic advisor.
- Work must transfer back to the University for credit towards your degree.
- Federal funds, by law, cannot be disbursed prior to ten days before
the start of a term. Therefore, it is important that you have other resources
available to you should partial or full payment be required earlier than
the attainability of federal funds.
- There are alternative loan programs available to students that are
privately insured and are not subject to Federal regulations.
- Contact the Office of Financial Aid for more details.
- Florida Program funds can only be received if you are paying tuition
to a Florida Institution.
- If you plan on enrolling at USF for the Summer term, in addition to
participating in a Summer overseas program, please indicate so on your
certification form.
If you have any questions regarding this fact sheet, please contact
the Office of Financial Aid, and remember to plan ahead.
